What: CMS is establishing separate payments for managing a patient’s care outside of a face-to-face visit for practices equipped to provide these services, beginning in 2015.
Why: The care coordination policy recognizes the critical role that primary care plays in providing care to beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions as well as the importance of care that occurs outside of a face-to-face visit.
What: Under a revised timeline proposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Stage 2 of EHR meaningful use implementation will be extended through 2016, and Stage 3 will begin in 2017 for those providers that have completed at least two years in Stage 2.
Who: CMS/Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) announcement.
Why: Among other things, the extension appears to give providers more time to get ready for their first reporting period.
